Negotiation photo

We are in job search season and many people will be receiving offers for jobs. Then what? Then you negotiate. Here are 23 tips to consider as you anticipate receiving such an offer. I welcome your counteroffer (i.e., feedback, critique, questions, and additional tips).

Thanks to Laurie Berry, Julie Payne-Kirchmeier, Brandi Hephner LaBanc, and many other people who shared their experience and expertise with me.

Tip #1 – Start thinking about what you want and need before getting the offer.

Tip #2 – Do research on position, institution, units, etc. Most public institutions must make the salaries of employees public.

Tip #3 – Know what you will walk away from, be it salary, benefits, responsibility, etc.

Tip #4 – Remember that negotiation is not about making demands, it is about engaging in a conversation about your confidence in your ability to contribute. Be prepared to talk about that.

Tip #5…

Like the measles…

Old People holding hands, Love

“Like the measles, love is most dangerous when it comes late in life.” — Lord Byron

The famous quote that everyone often says is ‘patience is virtue.’ How does that relate to the quote above? Being patience will not help heal the measles nor will it help you understand love when it comes late in life. Love and affection for someone can come anytime in your life and when it does come, don’t be afraid to embrace it. You’re not too young or too old to love. When you’re inflicted with measles late in life, the likelihood of being cured 100% is low; the likelihood of loving someone 100% is worth the change no matter what.

When love surely comes your way, don’t question it by asking:

I am really wroth the person time?

Am I not too old to be in love?

Can I trust this person and are we met to be each other soul mate?

Remember, Love has no age or prerequisite. Follow your heart, Pray and the lord will surely lead you to the right person.

Love, Special, Old People Love

Have a blessed weekend 🙂

Hello and Happy Monday!!

Here is one word for you to start your week  with “Faith”

According to the dictionary, faith means ‘strong belief or trust in someone or something’

In my case, the two words that summons the meaning of “Faith’ is Hope and Trust.

If you have these two, just know that any challenge you face this week or what you are facing now, when you have hope and trust, you can overcome it.

Have a blessed week 🙂

Change in Career Position

The Challenge you face at workplace…

Well you can say it’s not a challenge but at the same time, you might think it is a challenge. Working at a small company where their QA department is just building up, i have the opportunity to move to another department after a year of working at my present department as a QA to become a BA. I grab the opportunity with an open arm knowing I get to work more with the project team than I have over the past six month because of a “middle man” manager.

I recently just submitted the form needed to transfer from my present position to a new position as a BA, and hour later, the news was announced about the future roles and responsibility of a QA. The new role and responsibilities of a QA involve being the QA lead of a certain project, coordinate with the QA team in India, be the mainstream line communicator between the India team QA and the project team, and doing a dynamic testing.

Is the new role and responsibility exciting to me? Heck yea! I am excited.

I’m I thinking of revoking my application for the new position? Heck Yea!! I am.

Will I do it? Maybe Yes, Maybe No, I don’t know.

Because of the news, my heart start to flutters and start to make me think if maybe it isn’t the right time to leave my present position for the new one. I have done plenty of research on when it’s the best time to change your career and for me the main reason why I am in the position of changing my career is to get challenged, to you more brain power in thinking and researching on

how to help utilize the customers’ needs, able to communicate more with the customers and the project team than the “middle man” and being familiarize with our system than I have knowledge of now, Oh and a rise pay (if possible).

The more I question the news, the more I realize, I need to stop being scared of change and challenges in life. Yes it can break you a little but it will also build you in both confident and commitment.

So if there is a position at your current job that you have the qualification of applying for like “you must have been at your current position for more than 12 month.” Do not hesitate to apply for it and face the challenge that comes with it like working more than 40 hrs a week (acks!), having to work late after the working hrs to meet the deadline and doing your own research on how to fix something that was broken.

Keep in mind,

“Don’t be afraid to fail. Don’t waste energy trying to cover up failure. Learn from your failures and go on to the next challenge. It’s OK to fail. If you’re not failing, you’re not growing.” —- H. Stanley Judd

And as for me, I am totally applying for the new position and see where it will take me.  🙂

Happy New Year

Yes! we’re in the year of 2014 and i am forever grateful to the Almighty GOD for all he has done for me and my family.

As we’re about to start the year of 2014, i’ll love to share a prayers with you mostly by Billy Graham:

Our Father and our God, as we stand at the beginning of this new year we confess our need of your presence and your guidance as we face the future

Help us to humbly put our hands into your hand, and to trust you and to seek your will for our lives during this coming year. “Teach me, O Lord, to follow your decrees; then I will keep them to the end” (Psalm 119:33)

We pray for our nation and its leaders during these difficult times, and for all those who are seeking to bring peace and justice to our dangerous and troubled world.

And so, our Father, we thank you for the promise and hope of this New Year, and we look forward to it with expectancy and faith.

This I ask in the name of our Lord and Savior, who by His death and resurrection has given us hope both for this world and the world to come.

Life as it’s known…

If you have the option to decide when you want to die, would you take it?

During a discussion after the News report of Nelson Mandela’s death (May his perfect soul rest in peace). My Friends and I were talking about whose death we felt the most. Was it Paul Walker and Roger or Nelson Mandela’s death?

Most of them, including me said we felt Paul Walker and Roger’s death the most because he is still young and there is more to his life to come like making Fast and the Furious 7 (lol) and taking care of his young daughter. And some said they felt for both of them because DEATH HAS NO AGE. When GOD says it’s your time to go it is even though we might not like the way we have to die.

And one person in particular said “I don’t want to ever die. If I can life for eternity, I will surely do that… I want to be like Elijah who did not die but disappear from the surface of the earth”

Yes, death has no time, some might know when they are about to die, and some just don’t know. Some have to decide if they want to make the decision to unplug the life support of their loves ones making them feel like a murder….

Just know, the amount of time you’ve spend with them and the amount of moment you’ve shared with them were precious. If you loves ones were able to choose when to die, they’ll never choose because the time they spend with you is like Heaven. Even though they might be gone, they’re not alone because Almighty GOD is by their side and they are watching over you.

RIP to all the people that died this year. my prayers and thought goes out to John and Jeff La for the passing away of their father, Olga and her family for the passing away of her uncle, Nwokeyi family and  fiancée for the passing away of Christian Chikezie Nwokeyi Jr and Celeste for the passing away of her nephew

I am Sorry

When you say “I am sorry”, first it seems like it’s just a word that is so easy to say without remorse.

Try it once; say “I am sorry”. See it was easy.

Saying ‘I am Sorry” after a major fight can be a very difficult word to say. To the fighters, one might be thinking he/she is right while the other person is also thinking the same thing. So who do you think will say the word “I am sorry” first

I was brought up in an African home where the elders are always right and as for the youngsters, all you could say or do was to keep quiet. What I have learned while growing up is that no matter what the situation is or what had happen, I believe that if both parties have clam down, they should both say “I am sorry”

But when the situation is too deep, then play the age game. If the person you had a fight/argument is older than you, clam down, take your time and call or go over to the person and say “I am sorry”

Sorry, I am sorry, forgiveness,

Have a lovely weekend.
